Mesina: Taking part in Belgrade basketaball clinic is like getting a university degree

We are reminding you the 19th edition of Basketball Clinic Belgrade (BCB 2020), that is recognized as one of the best coaching clinics in the whole World, that will take place at Serbian capital – city of Belgrade from 27th to 28th of June 2020. We want to emphasize that in the past 18 years we had over 20.000 coaches form all around the World listening to the lectures from almost 70 most prominent worldwide famous coaches. We are giving our best to have at each clinic one of the most prominent European coaches, one of the most influential US coaches (NBA or NCAA), and since Serbia as a country of basketball is hosting our Clinic – one of the best Serbian coaches is our lecturer every time. Besides this, we are trying to cover all the coaching aspects – from technical elements, through tactical ideas to psychophysical preparation of players and teams – thereof lectures on all of these topics are present at each edition of the Clinic.

We just received confirmation from one of the most prominent European coaches that he will be lecturing at this year’s edition of the BCB – coach Ettore Messina. He is currently a head coach of Olimpia Milano, but throughout his long coaching career he was 4 times Euroleague Champion, silver medalist from European Championship with Italian NT in 1997, first assistant coach of NBA teams of San Antonio Spurs and LA Lakers.
In addition we are bringing you a short interview with coach Messina that we made yesterday!

After 16 years you are coming back to Belgrade Coaching Clinic as a lecturer. What so you remember from your first time appearance at the Clinic here and how would you describe all that is being done here in Serbia regarding the education of basketball coaches?

  • Yugoslavian and Serbian basketball have had lots of great coaches and players for many years and I remember all of them since I started playing and then coaching. To be invited in Belgrade to present your ideas is like receiving a university diploma. I am always nervous before envy presentation and I remember I felt honored and proud at the same time sixteen years ago.

Some time in the past you stated Professor and about the time you got to spend with him and learn from him?

  • I met professor Nikolic when he was in Bologna first but I had the opportunity to know him better when he was consulting Boscia Tanjevic in Trieste and, being the National coach, I had time to go to their practices. He was always so open and nice to me, and I had the opportunity to learn a lot. He was obviously a great mind but also a very nice gentleman and an example.

When you say Serbian basketball what is the first thing that you think of?

  • Two words: toughness and togetherness. First because even those who are not tough act like they are . Second because you can have strong disagreements among yourselves but outside you come always together to fight your opponents.

You are working and you used to work with a lot of Serbian players. Which one of them for you was the most specific one or the best one and why?

  • I have been fortunate and honored to do basketball with many of your players. I respect all of them and do not want to underestimate any but Sasha Danilovic has had a big impact on my life, on and off the court.

Serbian Basketball association will announce the list of other lecturers and schedule of lectures in following months.

Besides great coaching names that you will be able to hear at BCB 2020, Serbian Association of Basketball Coaches (SABC) will prepare “coaching packages” that will contain accommodation at specific hotels (that we will get at great prices), transportation to the venue (if necessary), and a lot of coaching materials (book and magazine “Trener” (, coaching planners, T-shirts,…), and many more surprises.

We will inform you about the upcoming NEWS in days to come!

Looking forward to seeing you in Belgrade in June!!!
